Tournament Rules

TEAM ELIGIBILITY
All teams must be currently registered with their state association. Teams not affiliated with TSSAS (
Texas State Soccer Association -- South) must provide a travel permit (submit with entry form or bring to Friday registration).

PLAYERS
Teams may carry a
maximum of 23 players on their roster, including a maximum of 5 guest players. Guest players must be USASA registered and have a current photo ID player card. Teams must provide current player ID cards upon registration for all players. Women may play on one women's team and one coed team. Men may play on only one coed team.

UNIFORMS/EQUIPMENT
All players must have a permanent number on the back of their jerseys, goalies included. In the event of a color conflict, the home team (listed first on schedule) will be responsible for changing jerseys or wearing pennies. Goalkeepers must be clearly distinguishable from other players. Sliding pants must match color of shorts. Shin guards are mandatory. No jewelry is allowed except for a smooth wedding band.

GAMES
F.I.F.A. rules of play apply with the following exceptions:

PRELIMINARY GAMES
Two 30-minute halves with a 5-minute break between halves. Semifinal games that are tied after 60 minutes will go directly to penalty kicks.

FINALS
Championship games also will be played as two 30-minutes halves, except in divisions with no semi-final games. Those divisions will play a full-length final.

COED-SPECIFIC RULES
List below is a summary -- see HWSA coed rules page for details (tournament rules take priority in case of conflict -- e.g., roster size, etc.)
Maximum five men on field at one time (not including goalkeeper)
Goalkeeper is genderless (does not count as male or female player)
Women's goals = 2 points
No sliding tackles (some exceptions -- see HWSA coed rules)

SCORING
Win: 6 points Tie: 3 points Loss: 0 points Shutout: 1 point
Plus 1 point for each goal up to 3 points
Division tiebreaker: 1) head to head 2) goals for/goals against 3) coin flip

SUBSTITUTIONS
Unlimited substitutions shall be made at the referee’s consent on: any throw-in, half-time, goal kick, after a goal is scored or injury. A substituted player may re-enter the game at the discretion of the coach.

DISCIPLINE
Yellow cards will be cumulative in Saturday’s play. Red-carded players or players with two yellows must sit out their team’s next match. All eligible players start with a clean slate on Sunday.

Fighting, threatening behavior, referee abuse, etc. will not be tolerated. The tournament committee reserves the right to ban any player or team from the tournament or the park.


INCLEMENT WEATHER
In the event of bad weather, the tournament committee has the authority to:
• Relocate, reschedule or cancel any game(s)
• Reduce by up to 50% of the scheduled duration of any game
If teams complete at least 2 games, there shall be no refund of the entry fee for any reason. There will be no makeup date.

REPORTING SCORES
Referees will report the scores of the games to the score/referee table within 30 minutes of the end of the game.

PROTESTS
No protests allowed. All referee decisions are final.

MISCELLANY
• No roster changes after Friday night registration.
• Game balls will be provided by the home team (listed first on schedule).
• No refunds for a team’s failure to show.
• The tournament committee has the authority to rule on any situation not covered herein.
• Any team which forfeits a first-round game will be ineligible for semifinal or final play.
