OFFICER REPORTS

President:

1.        WUSA exhibition match

·       Tentative: Oct 19, 5pm, at Rice Stadium, tickets = $15 (on sale Sept 9), Washington Freedom (Mia Hamm) vs Atlanta Beat (Brianna Scurri & Cindy Parlow), 5,000 seats.

·       Need volunteers – about 40 to sell T-shirts or programs, assist in parking, directions, security

·       Great opportunity – HWSA, Houston Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, Houston 2012, and an opportunity to test the Houston market for a future franchise, and promote Houston as a premier soccer destination.

·       HWSA will pay 100% of expenses, but receive 100% of the revenue.  Marketing group has generated some sponsorship, but many items have been given as “in-kind” donations (hotels, meals).

2.        Positions open:

·       Field Coordinator – Stephen has taken over Coed Commissioner.  Responsible for researching and coordinating new fields.  See Jen is you’re interested.

·       Coed Membership – Mike Strawn has stepped down.  Responsible for keeping track of emails from interested players, connecting them with teams and forming new teams.  See Jen if you’re interested.

3.        Lights have (finally) been put up at Alief, which gives us an additional field for the fall.

4.        Bear Creek is under new management after December.  As such, it could go to youth only after that.  We can do little to prevent that.

5.        Fall team registration tonight: $100 deposit tonight guarantees your team a spot on the fall roster.  Women’s teams turn forms into Jen, Coed teams to Stephen.

Vice president:

1.        Red cards – 6 players currently waiting to meet with the board to justify continued play in the league.  That’s a record for one season.

2.        Proposed rule changes:

a)       Coed yellow card rule: league is no longer allowed to force teams to play short, so league can no longer enforce the 10-min penalty for a yellow card.  Elimination of 10-min penalty proposed.

b)       No sleeveless shirts: FIFA no longer allows sleeveless shirts, so neither can HWSA.  Proposed restriction that would disallow sleeveless uniforms.

c)       3 points for a win: proposed increase from 2 points to 3 points for a win, to decrease the need to go to “goals scored” as a tie-breaker.

All proposals were passed.

3.   IBF & Juggernauts reps to see VP after meeting.

Secretary:

1.        If you missed roll call, check in with Secretary after meeting.  If you don’t, you will be marked absent.  Once the minutes are approved, no more arguments.

2.        Recap of fines:

·       Missed meetings = $10

·       Cards: Yellow = $10, red = $25 (or more)

·       Forfeits = $40 (forfeiting team owes ENTIRE referee fee)  Note: When completing on-line game reports, please indicate not only whether or not the ref was paid, but if so, which team paid and how much.

3.        Please pay fines.  Check with Secretary to see what (if anything) you owe.  Emails were sent to most teams with the detail of the fines.  Fines must be paid before player registration on Aug 28.

Registrar:

1.        Lots of player cards and stickers available for registration.  Please pick up a set tonight.

2.        Please make sure both sides of the card are complete.  If everything is not complete, that team’s info is put on the bottom of the pile and taken care of last.  When completing the back of the card or the sticker:

·          Season = “02-03”

·          Club = team name

·          League = “HWSA”

·          Division = “Coed” or “Women’s” as applicable

3.        Only the team reps should contact the registrar.

4.        Have cards tonight for: Team Zia, Allies, PWC, Synergy, and Stingrays.  Please pick them up after the meeting.

5.        When completing player forms, please don’t forget to fill in the team name.

6.        Drop box still functional.  Please send email or voicemail if you drop anything off.

Treasurer:

1.        Budget: 2002-2003 Budget available, to be reviewed and approved tonight.

Notable items:

·          Total budget was increased from $90,000 to $112,000.  This includes a low end expected profit from the WUSA game of $10,000.

·          Anticipated group in both women’s and coed leagues (accounts for most of the increased expenses)

·          Coed tournament fees will be increased, but women’s tournament income will decrease

·          Computer upgrade for registrar

·          Veteran’s Cup is a national tournament in Hawaii – Over 40 and Over 50 women’s teams

Budget was approved as submitted.

Women's Commissioner:

1.        Summer season resulted in 3 divisions: Competitive, Recreational A, and Recreational B.  Games are still being played, so standings are not yet final.

Coed Commissioner:

1.        Stephen is the new Coed Commissioner.

2.        Current Summer standings

Division

1st Place

1

Allies/Latin Sharks (Tie)

3.     Revised schedule due to rainouts is available tonight.  Should be online later in the week.

4.        Need to see teams reps for Allies, SW Kickers, Owls and Outback after the meeting.

5.        Coed vision:

All teams play all their games on either Sunday or Monday, not both days.

Winners of Sunday & Monday first divisions will play each other in a championship match.

6.        New teams will have better luck registering for the Sunday league, because Monday is filled with returning teams.

7.        A player cannot play in more than one division, even if one is Sunday and the other is Monday.

8.        Only 7 teams had no cards this summer: Spring Branch, Buffalo Wild Wings, Synergy (Coed), Marathon Madness, Team Zia, Houston City, SCV Thunder
