HOUSTON WOMEN'S SOCCER ASSOCIATION MINUTES OF MEETING

August 1, 2001

 

The meeting was called to order by Jen Cooper, President, at Saengerbund Hall at 7:30 p.m.

 

ROLL CALL

Women's Teams Absent:  Katy Kicks, Shooting Stars, and Synergy

                            

Coed Teams Absent:  Amigos, Amistad, Psychos,  Stingrays, Synergy, and Voyagen

                                                                              

New Teams Present: Tight Ends

 

Board Members Absent: None

 

MINUTES:

Minutes from the May 30, 2001 meeting were amended to include Red Hot Chicks as present in Roll Call and approved as revised.

 

OFFICER REPORTS

President:

1.      Team Registration Today:  Check in and pick up team packet.

2.      The board held its yearly retreat in June. Projects in progress include:

revising the Constitution and Bylaws

Incorporating HWSA as a Non-Profit Organization so that we can get sponsorships from corporations and qualify for sales tax-exempt status.

      revamping the website. Let Tom the Webmeister know of any suggestions.

3.      There is a annual general meeting for the Texas State Soccer Association-South Marlene, Pam Gutierrez, and Jen will be attending.

4.      We need a volunteer for Senior Commissioner, he/she will be in charge of tournament organizations.

5.      HWSA is sponsoring Rice University’s new women’s varsity soccer Team: we get a banner at all games and season tickets for team reps. Rice was one of the founding members of HWSA.

 

Vice president:

1.      Need to meet with the members of the D&P committee.

    

Secretary:

1.      We are changing the format of collecting fines. All fines will be collected at League Meetings only. Please see Patti and Marlene.

2.      In order to count you present, you must see Marlene. Anyone who does not come to me will be counted absent.

 

Registrar:

1.      There are cards left from the Summer Season for: Hit Squad, Spring Branch, and Houston Chronicle.

2.      You must replace any cards with Social Security numbers on them; leave the player ID # on the new cards blank and Tom will fill your league # for you.

3.      Pick up cards and renewal stickers, you can send completed registration materials to Tom or bring to next meeting. Please put name of team on check.

4.      Drop box at Tom’s house is coming in a couple of weeks, don’t slide registration materials under garage door or put in flower pot.

5.      Keep your contact info on the web site updated.

6.      If you have a correction for the roster send an e-mail to the webmaster.

 

Treasurer:

  1. The proposed Budget for 2001-2002  additions are to cover Coed national cup, increase PR to $500. Bottom Line our spending for 2001/2002 is 89,000 our income 93,700, we are ahead by 8,000.
  2. Motion to accept 2001/2002 budget as is was approved.
  3. State Cup refunds for Hackers need to see Patti.
  4. Teams with NSF issues need to see Patti: Scorpions, 1800’s, La Pandilla, Challengers, Stingers.

 

Senior Commissioner

 Jen presided.                                        

  1.  There is a coed tournament in Dallas over Labor Day weekend. August 5th is the deadline to register.

  2. Austin Women’s Tournament is October 6 and 7th see their web site AWSA.org for applications.

  3. Houston Women’s Tournament is in October 20 and 21st.

 4.  Congrats to Scorpions they received 2nd place in the Quickfoot Nationals Tournament in Dallas, Way to Go!!!!

 

Women's Commissioner:

 

1.      Awards for women’s spring season in  Division 4: Shooting stars and PWC tied for 1st place.

2.      Fall Division structure not yet determined until all team applications are turned in.

3.      Club team transfer rules need to be revised before the fall season. Proposed revisions will be e-mailed to everyone before voting.

4.      Russian Team wants to scrimmage one of our women’s team sometime in November. They also invited us to go to Russian to scrimmage them. Rice University probably let us use their varsity field They need housing and food. If you can help organize, please see Mary.

 

Coed Commissioner:

 

  1. Awards for Division 2 Psychos and Division 3 TNT for spring season, they won 1st place.
  2. Standings for the Summer Season are on the web.

 

Field Coordinator

 

1.      15 teams filled out coed field surveys so far. Most popular fields are Awry, Memorial Park, Grob Park and G.O.A.L.S. A hard copy of the survey is in packet for each team who hasn’t filled one out yet.

2.      Practice sites will be posted on web.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

Membership

 

1.      Please welcome Scott Freeman as women’s membership and Mike Strawn as Coed membership.

 

OLD BUSINESS

None.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

1.      Fall Team registration, $75.00 non-refundable check is needed.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

            

  1. Next meeting is on Wednesday August 29th.. This is not a regular meeting. Just registration. Team reps are not required to attend if they have already sent in registration.

Women    7:30-8:15 p.m.

Coed         8:15-9:00 p.m.

  1. Free tickets to the Celtic festival on August 12th  see Patti.
  2. New player round up, August 8th  7:30-9:30 at the Kelvin Arms.
  3. Skills Clinic for women Saturday, August 11 and Saturday, August 25 at Alief, 9:30-11 am.
  4. NW Indoor Soccer is starting up their fall season. See their link on our website.
  5. Just a few more games left for WUSA. Semifinals are August 18th on TNT, finals are August 25 on TNT.
