OFFICERS REPORTS

President:

    1.  The Quickfoot Tournament had 50 teams compete this year versus 13 the year before. Quickfoot was very pleased with the improved participation and HWSA will probably sponsor the tournament again next year. Please let Jen Cooper know of any feedback on the tournament.
    2. As of July 1, Tom Whitehurst will step down as coed commissioner and Shelly West will take over that position. Tom is the only commissioner the coed league has had to date. Thanks for all of your hard work, Tom!

Vice president:

No report.

Secretary:

No report.

Registrar:

No report.

Treasurer:

  1. The 2000 – 2001 budget has been finalized. All team reps should review it so it can be voted on at the August league meeting. Several items were removed from the current budget including:
    • All corporate league items as they are no longer a part of HWSA.
    • The postal box since most teams now have email and the box primarily receives junk mail.
    • Money for attending the USSF meeting and the regional meeting as these are attended by the state reps.
    • The state cup bond since there is no qualifying tournament. The national cup bond was retained as teams must qualify to make it that tournament.
  2. There should not be an increase in state fees next year, so player fees should stay about the same.
  3. The referee assignor fee has been tentatively raised from $2.00 to $2.50.
  4. A recommendation was made to increase the national cup bond to cover coed teams as well as women’s teams.

Senior commissioner:

    1. Congratulations to La Pandilla who won second division in the Dallas Memorial Day Tournament.
    2. June 1 is the deadline for the National Coed Cup. It will be in League City and will run a;; day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
    3. [We forgot to announce that the University of St. Thomas coed team won their division at Coed State Cup in San Antonio, May 6-7.]

Women’s Commissioner:

    1. All games for the Spring season need to be completed by June 11. Alief is available as an alternate site if a field is needed during the week.
    2. If your team is having a practice that is open for people to attend, please let Mary deBauche or Vicky Jackson know.

Coed Commissioner:

    1. The final standings for the spring season are available on the web site (www.hwsa.org).
    2. There will be 5 new teams this summer. The season will start June 11.
    3. The schedule for the season will be posted on the web site as soon as possible.

Field Coordinator:

Alief, Cullen and Independence Park will be used for the games this summer. Make sure your team is on time for games on the unlit fields. Games will start at 7:00, not 7:15.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Membership:

Vicky Jackson is the new Membership chairperson for both the women’s and co-ed leagues.

Public Relations:

HWSA is providing volunteers for Tornados games in exchange for the Tornados promoting HWSA. An objection was raised to teams having to provide volunteers for the Tornados matches. The exchange of volunteers for free advertising was decided on by the board. Since no money was exchanged, no vote was taken by the teams.

Scholarship:

The winners of the 2000 HWSA Scholarship were announced. They were Melissa Drysdale of Houston United Coed (now Orange Crush), Zabrina Gamez of Clear Lake High School and "Julie" Elizabeth Nicholson of Westbury High School.

Tournament:

Volunteers are needed for the Oktoberfest Tournament.
