OFFICER REPORTS

President:

1.Jen Cooper, Mary DeBauche and Pam Gutierrez attended the state meeting on March 3. A proposal at the national meeting prior to the state meeting to increase player fees by $4.50 was defeated. The state is looking for more referees and would like to see more come out of the adult leagues. The state is willing to have a representative come to Houston and do a training session. See Jen Cooper or the state's web site if you would be interested.

2.Call your league commissioner if your team is not going to make a game. In the future, if the referee shows for a game and one team does not without alerting the league commissioner, the team which does not show will have to pay the full $40.

3.The team rep names, phone numbers and email along with team information have been posted on the HWSA web site for the women's teams(www.hwsa.org/wteams2.htm). If you do not want this information posted, please let Jen Cooper know. A similar posting will soon be available for the coed teams.

4.Bear Creek will rent more fields to HWSA in the fall. They have added some lit fields we will be able to use. We will also have access to a field at the UT Medical Center Rec Center which is centrally located.

5.West University Youth Soccer has contacted HWSA about working together to develop fields. They were turned down for a grant from USSF because they did not include adults in their usage. Thus they need to have men's and women's teams use the fields to receive the grant from USSF.

Vice president:

1.PriceWaterhouse Coopers filed a grievance about the rough level of play experienced when playing against Azteca Feminil. The grievance was upheld and Azteca Feminil was asked to play a less physical style. Their play has improved since and no further action is currently planned.

2.See Vicky Jackson if you need insurance forms. She has received some from the state.

Secretary:

No report.

Registrar:

No report.

Treasurer:

1.Teams who play their home games at Bear Creek of Alief should be receiving their invoices. These are due by the May meeting.

2.A number of checks have been returned to HWSA for insufficient funds. In the future, teams will be assessed a fine of $25 for each returned check.

Senior commissioner:

1.Congratulations to La Pandilla who won Division 2 at Women's State Cup.

2.The Babe Didrickson Zaharias Coed tournament will be played in Beaumont on June 10 and 11. Contact Pam Gregg for applications.

3.The Houston Tornados will have their first game May 5 at Butler Stadium. Michelle Akers will make a special guest appearance there. See Rose Leverton for tickets.

Women's Commissioner:

1.Teams who have had to reschedule games need to work between the team reps to reschedule games. The league does not automatically do this. If your normal playing field is not available, Alief may be scheduled. Please let Mary know when you have reached a decision on date, time and location.

2.For the games rained out on April 2, there was no way to find out the field conditions at Bear Creek. The field manager for Bear Creek did not reset his clock for daylight savings time and thus did not check the fields in time for the early games.

3.On Thursdays from 8-10, there is a lit field at Alief which is open for anyone who wants to practice.

Coed Commissioner:

1.Tom has registration forms for the summer season. These are due along with the $75 deposit at the May league meeting. Priority will be given to teams turning in their registration form and money in on time. Beyond that, priority will be given to teams which played in the spring, followed by returning teams from prior seasons and then new teams.

2.Teams turning in their registration form late will be assessed a $25 late fee.
