MINUTES:
Minutes from the January 9, 2002 meeting were approved as submitted.
President:
1. Minutes
· Minutes for the January 9, 2002 were emailed to everyone. If anyone is not receiving the minutes, let Sandra know.
2. Bear Creek
· Bear Creek management called regarding an incident at a women’s game. They have banned one women’s team from playing there and will permanently ban HWSA if there is one more incident.
· Bear Creek is our largest site for women’s games and is the site of the HWSA tournaments which are a small source of revenue for us.
· Bear Creek is federal property and we are low on the priority list for usage. Additionally, the current county commissioner does not like soccer. Management is considering requiring security at the games at a cost of $20 per game, which is not in the budget.
· Please remember that this league is recreational and violence jeopardizes our people, our teams and our league.
· Similar issues have arisen in the past at Alief, home of many coed games, which is also managed by the county.
3. Several board members attended the state association meeting in Houston on March 2.
· Coed State Cup is June 1-2. First and second place finishers for Fall 2001 are eligible to participate for free. A small bond is required but will be refunded following the tournament. Interested teams should contact Jen.
· The US Soccer Festival is the last week of July at U of H. It involves 4 women’s teams and 4 men’s teams. Commitments have already been received from 2 US youth national teams and 1 Mexican youth national team. Interested volunteers should see the website.
· The state budget was approved for next year. Some changes were made at the national level but the state is absorbing the cost, so HWSA fees should not change. However, liability and supplemental health insurance could increase. We will know this summer.
· A new vice-president was elected who plays in Houston’s Corporate league.
4. WUSA
· HWSA is getting closer to bringing an exhibition match to Houston. We have found some investors, and we expect to submit a proposal next month. We should have it solidified within about 6 weeks. The game would be at Rice on Oct. 19 or Nov. 2, depending on the women’s national team schedule. Interested volunteers should contact Jen.
