Field Coordinator:
The coed league will not be using the WSC field with temporary lights. We will solicit feedback before making a decision on play at WSC next season.
Teams should note on their registration forms if they have extraordinary scheduling needs. Although we can’t guarantee that requests will be honored, we will try to make accommodations.
The UT Houston Rec Center fields will be available beginning 20 November. Maps are available
Make-up games should be played before the end of December. A schedule to sign up for game slots was made available.
Membership: Mike Strawn from Team Thunder (coed) is taking over the coed league membership slot; Marisa Gutierrez (Jules FC) is taking over the women’s membership job.
Tournament: Awards from the Oktoberfest tournament are available at the front table for United Rangers, Kodiaks, Arsenal, Jules FC and Cosmos. The coed tournament will be held 24-25 February.
Revisions of the General Rules relating to discipline were presented and adopted with one change – any player may be substituted during a stoppage of a game for an injury, not just the injured player (at the referee’s discretion).
A motion to loan Alief Soccer Club (ASC) $15,000 to light field L2 at their soccer complex in George Bush Park was presented by the Board. HWSA would receive priority scheduling and $16,000 credit towards future field rentals from ASC. Funds would come from HWSA’s $15,000 certificate of deposit. The motion was seconded and passed without dissent.
The nominating committee presented a slate of candidates for league President, Secretary, Senior Commissioner, and Field Commissioner as follows:
President – Jen Cooper
Secretary – Pam Cisneros
Senior Commissioner – Cassie Powell
Field Coordinator – Stephen Jump
Nominations were requested from the floor. None were submitted, and it was moved that the proposed slate be elected by acclamation. The motion was seconded and passed without dissent.
On behalf of the league, President Cooper expressed thanks to Pam Gutierrez for her many years of service to HWSA. Pam was most recently serving as Senior Commissioner before stepping down this year. Thanks were also given to George Barnes for serving as Secretary for the past year.
A proposal for first division women’s teams to play every team twice each season was discussed. Possible problems with the proposal were discussed, including the length of the season with a seven or eight team division. It was decided that the issue could be addressed by the Women’s Commissioner.
No December meeting. The January meeting will be held on 10 January, not 3 January. Team registration forms and deposits for spring season will be due at the January meeting.
Sandra Schneider announced that her coed team (AA Houston) was planning to scrimmage at Independence Park at 7:30 Monday nights between the fall and spring seasons. Any teams wanting to play should coordinate with her.
