HOUSTON WOMEN'S SOCCER ASSOCIATION MINUTES OF MEETING

October 10, 2001

 

 

 

The meeting was called to order by Jen Cooper, President, at Saengerbund Hall at 7:30 p.m.

 

ROLL CALL


Women's Teams Absent:  Houston Stars,  Kodiaks, Alliance, Mexico 2000.
             

Coed Teams Absent:  Allies, Milan, Stingers

New Teams Present:  None

Board Members Absent:  Registrar: Tom Warzywak, Women’s Commissioner: Mary DeBauche, Coed Commissioner: Marisa Gutierrez

 

MINUTES:


Minutes from the August 1, 2001 meeting were approved as submitted.

 

OFFICER REPORTS


President:

1.      Next month elections for:

President

Secretary

Field Coordinator

If interested in any of these positions see Jen.

 

2.      In January we start the Over 30 Women’s League. It is a mini-season that doesn’t conflict with regular women’s season, runs four Saturdays from January  to early February. Allows Over 30 Women’s teams to qualify for Over 30 State Cup. Shelly West will be the Commissioner of that League. More details in November meeting and on Web.

3.      FIFA added some new rules this summer the most important one is No touching the Referee for any reason. Even incidental contact is punishable.

 

Vice president:

1.      Need volunteers for the D&P committee.

    

Secretary:

1.      Please pay your fines. All fines will be collected at League Meetings only. Please see Patti and Marlene.

 

Registrar:

Tom was absent. Jen presided.

1.      Anything turned in tonight for player registration is good for Sunday or Monday.

2.      Women need to turn in player registration by Monday for the tournament if they want their players to play in the tournament.

 

Treasurer:

  1. Need to see TNT and Scorpions for National Cup travel refund.
  2. Women’s teams that did not pay for their fields, Patti has field invoices.
  3. Pick up receipt for SCV Thunder and PWC.
  4. We have $36,000 in the bank, we are looking at a better option then putting the money in a CD, researching Chase Bank and Morgan Stanley.
  5. Light fund at Alief: we started with $15,000 and now at $3,600, new lights are still not up, county is holding approval.
  6. Budget 2001/2002 we have taken in $18,000 and spending $5,000 leaving $13,000. State fee have not yet been paid
  7. We need a volunteer to audit the Treasurer’s books. Please see Patti if interested.

 

Women's Commissioner:

Mary was absent Jen presided.

  1. Nomads made it to the semi-finals in the Austin Tournament.
  2. Don’t forget to turn in your score within 24 hours of the Sunday games.
  3. Lots of rain outs -- talk to Mary about reschedules.
  4. Russian Team will not be coming because of last month’s attack.          

 

Coed Commissioner:

Marisa was absent. Jen presided.

  1. Keep checking the schedule for make up games.
  2. Three teams went to Coed National Cup: Red Dogs, TNT, and Scorpions.
  3. Milan needs to pick up their awards from the summer.

 

Field Coordinator

1.      Still looking for new fields -- any comments or suggestions let Stephen know.

2.      We can now use Blossom Heights field, another league has goals set up that we can use however we must lock them up.

3.      Long-term: G.O.A.L.S just purchase some fields and will be developing them, they plan on renting one field out.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

Membership

 

1.      If looking for players let Mike Strawn and Heather Correll know.

 

Tourney

 

  1. Need volunteers for the Oktoberfest Tourney  (Oct. 20-21).
  2. If you want to be a guest player, talk to Jen.
  3. Teams in the tourney can pick up their schedule packets tonight.
  4. Quickfoot will have two short-sided tourneys next spring:  4v4 on January 19 and 6V6 on May 18.
  5. No Coed tournament in February; we might do a coed intratourney.

 

 

OLD BUSINESS

None.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

1.      Look over the revisions to the Constitution and Bylaws: shorter document, eliminated Senior Commissioner, additions to the D&P, approve at the next meeting.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

 1.   Next league meeting Nov. 7 we will have elections.

2.      Women’s skills clinic on October 21 at 9:30 at Bear Creek.

3.      Saengerbund is hosting an Octoberfest on the 19-21 and 27-29, bring your own beer mug free entrance.
