OFFICER REPORTS

President:

1. Quickfoot 6 v. 6 Tournament will be May 20 at Bear Creek Park. Sandra Olmo is the HWSA coordinator.  All games will be played on that day. Teams are guaranteed 3 games.  Quickfoot will pay for all advertisement, provide music, set up the fields and provide first aid. HWSA will provide 3 volunteers for the tournament.  This is a tremendous money making opportunity for HWSA. HWSA will get half of all sponsorships, 10% of team registration fees for teams 51-99 and 10% of all registration fees if 100 or more teams register. HWSA can also provide concessions or contract these out and keep profits.

2. Co-ed Tournament is February 19 and 20 at Bear Creek. HWSA needs each team to donate 1 hour of time for the tournament.

3. Liz Benavidez has agreed to be commissioner for the U-23 League this summer.

4. Sandra Olmo has agreed to chair the scholarship committee. She will need 2-3 people to help her read through the applications and select the recipients.

5. In lieu of an awards party, awards will be presented at the February 2 league meeting. Refreshments will also be provided for team reps during player registration at the meeting. All players are welcome.

Vice president:

1. HWSA is still having trouble getting insurance forms from the state. Six were provided, but a total of nine were needed. As soon as more come in, Vicki will provide them to those needing them.

2. Last season, there was an incident in a co-ed game between Spring Branch and Texas International in which a Texas International player suffered a broken orbital bone. A grievance was filed by Texas International. The Discipline and Probation Committee did not take action because no card was issued. Only if a card is issued by the referee is the committee supposed to take action against a player; however, all players should remember that this is recreational soccer and should play so as not to risk serious injury to other players.

Secretary:

1. HWSA is trying to develop a league wide e-mail list to better communicate with all the players about tournaments and other topics that the board feels are relevant. Currently, we are asking all team reps to e-mail George Barnes (barg003@computron.net) with an e-mail list for their team. HWSA is going to procure access for a listserv which teams can use and maintain with their e-mail list and which HWSA can use to e-mail players. More information will be provided at the February meeting.

2. When you pay fines please either pay the Secretary directly. If you pay the Treasurer, be sure to inform the Secretary to make sure your team is properly credited. The Secretary maintains the list of which fines have and have not been paid, not the treasurer.

Treasurer:

Since August, HWSA had an inflow of $41,500 ($31,000 in fees) and an outflow of $47,000 ($26,000 to TSAAS). HWSA would like to see inflows increase so that we can develop more fields.

Registrar:

1. Tom has team rosters for each team. Team reps need to get their roster from Tom and review that the names are correct and initial beside the names of returning players.

2. Registration forms for new players are available on the web site. Player cards for new players will be done at the February league meeting, so be sure to bring their signed player card with a picture.

3. Married players do not need a new card, but a form should be submitted with their new information.

4. Social Security Numbers will no longer be used on player identification cards. Identification numbers will be assigned. Players will need to convert their cards to the new system beginning next fall.

Senior commissioner:

1. Austin Longjohn Tournament is January 22-23.

2. HWSA coed tournament is Feb. 19/20. The fee is $250 if registered by January 17, $300 if teams register by January 31. HWSA teams may also register at the February league meeting.

3. The Fiesta tournament is April 15 and 16.

4. For any women's teams interested in National Cup, the deadline is January 31.

5. State Cup is in San Antonio. Coed is May 6-7 and will cost about $250. Pam has not received any hard copy information yet. Women's is in March and should also cost about $250

6. The Mardi Gras women's tournament in New Orleans is February 26-27. Teams going to it will need a travel permit.

Women's Commissioner:

1. Standings are available.

2. There are still 3 make-up games to be played in first division.

3. This past fall, Texas International Women's was found to have played unregistered players on multiple occasions, even after being warned not to do so. As a result, Texas International women's is serving a one-year suspension. Former Texas International players may transfer to another team and play after paying the transfer fee. HWSA will continue to do spot checks of all teams to make sure players are not playing without being registered. Make sure to get players properly registered at least a week prior to them playing. Women who are on co-ed teams also need to be registered for their women's team and vice versa.

4. The spring season will start February 14.

Coed Commissioner:

1. By a 10-6 vote, co-ed team reps voted to continue playing at the Cy-Fair fields. There were complaints about having to drive so far, but without the fields, 4 fewer teams would be able to play co-ed. Co-ed can't play at those fields on Sunday during the day as they are already scheduled.

2. HWSA teams do not have access to the fields at Memorial as they are still designated as youth fields.

3. Standings are available.

4. Make sure Tom has gotten all of the game results for your team.

Corporate commissioner:

Starting with the sSpring season, corporate will form their own league, independent of HWSA with the approval of the HWSA board and the state.

Field Coordinator:

Stephen is looking at moving some co-ed games to Thursday, perhaps at Alief to provide more field access.

Public Relations:

1. The PR Committee has been talking to alumni groups, the city, the county, soccer stores, high schools and colleges to let them know about HWSA and to try to increase the awareness of what HWSA offers.

2. HWSA will work with the Houston Tornados this season. HWSA will provide 12 volunteers for each home game. Each volunteer will get an HWSA T-shirt and HWSA will get 2 banners at each home game and an advertisement in the Tornados program.

Tournament:

1. The Quickfoot Tournament will be May 20 at Bear Creek. There will be teams starting in U-8 and up to a division of teams with an average age of at least 35.

2. All team reps should have received a flyer for the HWSA co-ed tournament on February 19-20. Dr. Pepper will sponsor T-shirts and possibly trophies. The more teams that register, the more divisions there will be.

Tom Warzywak's address is now: 13902 East Creek Court, Sugar Land, TX 77478

Suspensions for cards in a season:
