OFFICERS REPORTS

President:

1.       HWSA is celebrating its 25th year of existence this year and is the oldest operating league in Houston.  There will be parties to celebrate this achievement, starting with one October 7 during the Oktoberfest Tournament.

2.       Pam, Vicki and Jen attended the state meeting.

a.       Voting on changes to the state by-laws were tabled.

b.       There will not be a player fee increase.

c.       Player insurance rate is locked in for 2 more years.

d.       National wished to raise the player fees by $3.50, but it was not passed at the national level this summer.

3.       HWSA has an agreement with Saegerbund Hall to use the facilities without charge.  Saegerbund had expected to have revenues come in by selling beverages during the meetings.  Purchases of beer and sodas have fallen below what Saegerbund had expected.  In order to keep using Saegerbund without charge team reps are encouraged to purchase and consume beverages at the meetings

4.       Elections will take place at the November meeting.  A new secretary is needed as well as help with membership.  If you're interested in helping with either of these positions, please contact George Barnes at GeorgeBarnes@msn.com.

Vice president:

Bill is working to revise the disciplinary rules.  These will be e-mailed to the team reps to vote on in October.

Secretary:

No report.

Registrar:

Reviewed registration process.

All cards submitted at the league meeting will be ready by the following Wednesday.

Treasurer:

No report.

Senior commissioner:

1.       Congratulations to University of St. Thomas who won Coed State Cup this May and in Coed National Cup September 29-30.

2.       The 2001 State Cup for Coed will be in Houston.  Bay Area Soccer League will host the women’s State Cup.

Women’s Commissioner:

1.       There will be 26 teams this Fall, including 2 new team, Texas Heat in 2nd division and United Rangers in 3rd.

2.       Please confirm the team rep directory is correct for your team.

3.       HWSA would like to encourage teams to consider World Soccer Center as a place to pay their home games.  It is the same cost as Bear Creek.  There is plenty of parking and they will have a clubhouse and liquor license.

Coed Commissioner:

1.       Only 1 team signed up for the north division, so geographic divisions are currently on hold. All teams will have some games at World Soccer Center.

2.       Please identify which team you are with in emails to Shelly.

Field Coordinator:

No report.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Membership:

1.       There are lots of men and some women looking for teams.

2.       New player roundup to be at Two Rows at 7:00 on 9/6.

3.       HWSA will do a water stop at the Houston Marathon next year.

Public Relations:

No report.

Tournament:

Applications for the Oktoberfest Tournament are due by 9/18.

OLD BUSINESS

None.

NEW BUSINESS

1.       A question was raised as to why Arsenal was asked to not play at Inwood in the future.  Referees prefer to do games where they can get back to back games and only 1 team plays at Inwood.  There have also been some complaints about the condition of the field.

2.       A question was raised about the discount going away for players playing on multiple teams not having to pay for insurance for both teams.  Tracking this has been a problem for the state and the league.  The discount has only applied for the Fall season.

3.       The P.O. Box is going away as it is not currently being used.

4.       Registration for the Fall season took place.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

1.       Fort Bend is looking for players for an O-30 league.

2.       The next league meeting will be October 4th at 7:30 p.m. at Saegerbund Hall.
